Installation Instructions

Please note: This control will not work with SharePoint Foundation since it relies on API's that are only present in Standard and Enterprise.
  1. Download MyLinksMenu.wsp and copy it to a location that's accessible from your SharePoint server(s).
  2. Run the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell as an administrator, and then execute the following commands:
    • Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath <Path to MyLinksMenu.wsp>
    • Install-SPSolution -Identity MyLinksMenu.wsp -GACDeployment
  3. The ASP.NET SessionState Service is required to use the site list caching functionality. If this is not already enabled, it can be with the following command:
    • Enable-SPSessionStateService –DefaultProvision
  4. Verify that the solution has been successfully deployed in Central Admin->System Settings->Manage farm solutions.
  5. Activate the "My Links Menu" feature on each site collection where it will be used. The following PowerShell script will activate it on ALL site collections in a given web application:
    • Get-SPWebApplication "https://<WebAppUrl>" | Get-SPSite -Limit ALL | ForEach-Object {Enable-SPFeature "71ad2dbb-db04-4323-b002-cffb64e57a98" -Url $_.Url -confirm:$false }
  6. To ensure that the "My Links Menu" feature is activated on all newly created site collections, activate "My Links Menu - Feature Stapler" in Central Admin->Manage web applications->Manage Features.
