Configuration Options
  • Text: The text that's displayed on the menu's main button. The default value is "My Links".
  • ShowQuickLinks: Specifies whether or not to show My/Quick Links and their associated actions, e.g. "Add to My Links", etc. Default value is "true".
  • UseMemberships: Specifies whether or not the control will load the user's site memberships from their profile. The default value is "true".
  • UseSiteSearch: Specifies whether or not the control will use SharePoint search to find the sites the user has access to. The default value is "false". Additional configuration is required, see the Site Search Option page for more details.
  • SearchScope: The scope used for the Site Search Option. The default value is "My SharePoint Sites".
  • SearchResultLimit: The maximum number of site results to return while performing the site search. The default value is "1000".
  • IncludeWebsInSearchResults: Specifies whether or not to include webs in the search results. If this option is disabled, only the root of each site collection the user has access to will be displayed in their site list. The default value is "true".
  • CacheSiteList: The default value is "true". Please note, the ASP.NET SessionState Service must be enabled/provisioned for caching to work.
  • CacheDuration: The number of minutes to retain a cached site list. The default value is "30".
  • SiteMenuDepth: The number of sub menus to display on the site list. For example, a SiteMenuDepth of "0" would display just the root of each site collection the user has access to. A SiteMenuDepth of "1" would display the site collections, each with a sub-menu containing all top-level webs the user has access to with in the collection. The default value is "1".

The configuration options above can be changed two different ways:
  1. Extract the entire contents of the .wsp file, make the desired changes to CONTROLTEMPLATES\MyLinksMenu\MyLinks.ascx, and then repackage the extracted directory. Since .wsp files are basically renamed .cab files, any .cab compatible archive utility will work. IZArc (http://www.izarc.org/) seems to work well.
  2. To test the options out, you can simply edit 14\TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES\MyLinksMenu\MyLinks.ascx once the solution has been added. This is not recommended for a production environment!
